Day 37: Wed 8 Feb - Cann River to Jindabyne, 195km

Very overcast and drizzly to fine and pleasant
Start time: 8:30am; arrived: 1:20pm
Walk: 3.5km

After a leisurely breakfast and pack-up, we left Cann River under somewhat ominous skies. It rained/drizzled on and off all morning and our first stop, in the drizzle, was Bombala. Wendy had rung her uni friend Triona (who we stayed with last year in Feb/Mar) at the last minute to say we were travelling through Bombala, were they doing anything, and could they make it to town to catch up for a brew. Unfortunately, Jum could not make it, but Triona did and we had a lovely chat over coffee and cake at the Bombala Bakery. Jum and Triona had just put their youngest child, Will, who we met last year, in boarding school in Sydney so were both feeling a little lost, however, Triona did look good! After about an hour and a half, we had to say goodbye, although Greg would have loved to have gone back with Triona to help muster the sheep for shearing (the wet weather is not helping their endeavours). We met G&Y in the park and left Bombala together.

The scenery to Jindabyne was in stark contrast to the forests and mountains we had been experiencing the last weeks or so. Wide open paddocks, some with livestock, some devoid. The Boco wind farm just outside of Dalgety was amazing just for the number of wind mills there were. The bridge over the Snowy River in Dalgety was also fantastic, being built in 1888.

Arriving in Jindabyne we made our way to the Jindabyne Holiday Park right on the foreshore of Lake Jindabyne. Rather fortunately, it seems, we were allocated sites not overlooking the lake, rather in the back-blocks, but away from the maddening crowds. Although it is not peak season, there are a lot of "grey nomads" here.

After doing the washing and hanging it out to dry, a snooze was had. We all then went for a wander along the foreshore, and back through the township of Jindabyne to do a spot of shopping at Woolies. Pre-dinner drinks were then had at the Fischer’s, complete with a very lonely man and his dog who set up camp next door.

Greg's hand needed re-dressing and this was done before dinner. It was looking not too flash, but not too bad either. Hopefully the new dressings will work a treat?!
