Sunny
and pleasant
Start
time: 8:05am; arrived: 2:15pm
We left well before our agreed departure time of 8:15am. We were headed for the
Queenscliff Ferry Terminal and we arrived well within time to board the ferry.
We had booked online for the 9am ferry as it was the last of the cheap fares
for the day, and by booking online we saved another $3!!! We parked in a
designated lane and wandered through the RoRo Cafe again, chatted with Kev and
Jo who had driven out to say goodbye, and took lots of photos. The ferry
arrived, unloaded its cars and passengers and then reloaded with us and the
other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. We left about 9:01am which is pretty
spot on!
We had an early mornos onboard the ferry and then watched the scenery. We were
lucky enough to see some dolphins frolicking near the ferry, unfortunately none
of the photos captured any of them nicely. About 40 minutes later we arrived at
Sorrento and were unloaded. Our first mission was to find a bike shop for Greg
to buy a new cable for his rear gears as he had broken it yesterday on our
return from Geelong. We found a shop in Rosebud and found a park on the side of
the main road, Greg ran across the road, paid $3.60, ran back and we were on
our way again. G&Y had gone ahead of us.
Next stop, just to kill a bit of time was at an antiques and collective
centre/shop at Tooradin. Nothing to see, move right along. We stopped again at
Caldermeade Dairy Farm and Cafe just because we thought it would be a good
idea. As we pulled up we met a man with a brand new Jayco Silverline caravan
and had a chat with him (this is his third Jayco and he is very happy with
them). G&Y drove by on the highway as we were chatting. Unfortunately, the
dairy was not milking when we visited but we did get to see the magnificent
facilities they have for milking the girls. Greg had sent G&Y a text
telling them we had seen them and by the time we were leaving, we got a reply
saying they were lunching in Lang Lang, followed quickly by a backup message
saying they were moving onto Leongatha as there was no parking in Lang Lang. We
had always intended to stop at Leongatha for lunch so agreed wholeheartedly. We
chose the Leongatha recreation reserve as our lunch location and unfortunately
stopped a little too soon. It was still not a bad location for lunch, but a
couple of hundred metres or so round the corner would have allegedly been a
whole lot better. Oh well.
Back on the road, we went via Foster to get to Yanakie Caravan Park whilst
Fischer's went by Fish Creek and they arrived a few minutes before us. We
checked in to the park and were given site #3. A snooze followed the setup
procedure and we then went for a walk around the park. There are some lovely
sites within the park, but some don't have water. There is no dump point
either, so Wendy is going to have to use the toilet sparingly!
We had pre-dinner drinks while Greg repaired his bike. Whilst Wendy prepared
the dinner, the rest went for a walk. Greg then had a shower whilst Wendy
started cooking dinner (pork and salmon). The meal was eaten inside as the
flies are VERY friendly in this part of Australia. Dishes, teeth, shower and
bed.
