Day 34: Sun 5 Feb - Yanakie to Tarra Valley, 112km

Cloudy but warm’ish to overcast and rainy
Start time: 9am; arrived: 1:45

Walk: 3km

We had a little sleep in, had breakfast, packed up and left. We had to back-track a bit to Foster to get out of Wilsons Promontory. We were headed to the Tarra Valley where Gunther lived on a dairy and sheep farm when he was seven years old. We stopped at Port Welshpool for mornos which was made in the van.

It was then into Yarram for fuel, grocery and grog shopping. Those tasks completed, we took a walk down the Main Street of Yarram which Gunther kind of remembered. There are a number of very old buildings, all of which were at some time very significant. We had lunch at the Yarram Bakery – light salad sandwiches.  Back to the vans for the short trip to the Tarra Valley Caravan Park, site #21.

Once set up, we had a snooze then went for a walk up the road to the farm where Gunther lived as a young boy. It seems the property has been subdivided and at least one part of it is currently for sale. Throughout the walk, we were regaled with memories of this and that and it was satisfying to know we had come back to a happy place.

Pre-dinner drinks were had at the Fischer’s place (site #22), and as it is Sunday, dinner is "get your own". However, as Greg has only one and a half operational hands, Wendy prepared stuff for him to cook. After dinner, we went back to #22 to watch a movie. Just as we started to watch it, the rain decided to come down and it was so loud we decided to move into the van. However, that was not much better as the rain was really heavy and cancelled out the sound of the movie, so we decided to forego the movie and go to bed.

Teeth, shower and bed, all before 10pm!!
