A very twisty/turny and hilly GOR today with a magnificent view of the sea. Not
a very interesting day, nor a long one. We got to Lorne and it was standing
room only; there must have been a surf carnival or something on in town. We
managed to find a park near the Information Centre, had a wander around the
Centre, and then went back to the van and had coffee and cake in the van. On
the way into Lorne, we were debating whether to stay in Lorne to drive up the
hill to a free camp near Benwerrin called Big Hill Campsite. We were waiting
for Y&G, and when we could finally contact them, they were already heading
up the hill as they were immediately put off by the crowds. So off we went up
the hill. The camp site is really beautiful. Right in the middle of the
Forrest, and when the yahoos are not yahooing, the serenity is amazing. There are
five King Parrots that call this area home and a couple of them are so
unperturbed by humans, he sits on your arm whilst eating the bread. Just after
we arrived, two cars with four (two in each car) young men of foreign
nationality arrived with their music turned up loud enough to wake the dead and
they proceeded to yell to each other for the next three hours, although they
were well within each other's hearing distance. When the Rangers turned up, we
think they were educated in the ways of normal behaviour for National Parks,
and they toned it down. Of course, the usual backpacker crowd rocked in, but
they were not a problem either. We all got a good night's sleep at last.
Greg and Y&G went for a late afternoon walk whilst Wendy relaxed with her
new eBook. Dinner was steak and lamb chop done on the ready-made fire pit and
BBQ plate, accompanied by smashed orange veggies and steamed greens.
