Sunny
and very warm with particularly nasty weather in the evening
Cycle: 51km
After breakfast we all rode out to Henley Beach where we had mornos. We were
going to ride straight home, but decided to detour via Glenelg where the next
Stage of the TDU was starting from. We arrived about 10 minutes before the
start and left about 10 mins after the start. It was quite an effort to find a
suitable bike path back to the city through the hordes of cyclists and
pedestrians, but we eventually found the path alongside the tram line.
We got home about 12:30pm, just in time for lunch, after which we both had a
snooze whilst half watching/listening to the TDU on the TV. Wendy didn't
actually sleep, but Greg did and he woke just before the finish which was very
exciting and won by an Aussie who beat the pants off Peter Sagan, the sprint
master.
Greg hurt his back this morning emptying the toilet cassette so chose to read
his book and drooled over racing bikes on the net, whilst Wendy turned the
aircon on in the van and sorted photos from the Indochina cycle trip.
It was soon time to get ready to go to the pub for dinner - the Walker's Arms.
We had arranged to meet Ian and Vanessa Westworth (great friends from Ingleburn
and Townsville Army days) at the pub at 7:30pm. So, we decided to leave to at
6:45pm as we were walking. However, about 15 minutes before we were due to
leave, Gunther and Yvonne started taking their awning in after hearing about
high winds and bad storms approaching. After consulting the BOM, we decided to
do the same but still left for the pub on time, despite having to relocate a
BBQ, chairs, electrical appliances, etc. It was just as well we did as a very
strong wind came through while we were at the pub and blew umbrellas away, blew
glasses and plates off tables and made a very big mess outside. We were safe
inside though. Meals were all good and the cider and wine were also good. Company
was excellent.
Just as well we walked as we all needed it after the large meal sizes. We made
it home with a few moments to spare before the rain came down again - only
drizzle this time though with no wind. A later night than usual.
