and pleasant
Start time: 8:15am; arrived: 11:35am
Last night we had an informal discussion about what time we should leave in the
morning. Wendy said we would probably be ready about 8-8:30am and Gunther said
they are usually ready about 9am. So, we thought we had plenty of time to get
up, have breakfast, pack up and leave. However, the Fischers were up before us
and were ready to leave just after 8am when we were not. So, after a hurried
breakfast, clean up and pack up, we were ready to leave. A slow wander down the
hill into Lorne and a sharp left turn saw us on the road northwards again.
Our first tourist stop was at the GOR Memorial Arch at Eastern View. The GOR
was built by WW1 returned servicemen who needed a job. The Arch commemorates
the construction of the road and symbolizes the sacrifice made by so many in
WWI. Next stop was at the Split Point Lighthouse. We thought they would cater
for RVs but apparently not. We stopped where it said "no stopping" so
Greg stayed with the vehicle and Wendy walked and took some photos. It was,
after all, just another lighthouse!! It was then onto Anglesea where we wanted
to have mornos. There were more Asians in town than Australians and the only
place we found that catered for vehicles longer than 6m was a park on the other
side of town, way out of sight of everything. Not to worry, we had a very quiet
mornos and were soon on our way again.
We decided to fill up the fuel tanks, and then hopefully replenish the fridge
and pantry, before checking-in to the van park. However, we could only manage
the fuel, due to the lack of appropriate parking the shopping centre car
park. After checking-in and setting up, we sped off
to shop as we were both quite hungry. Groceries and grog shopping concluded, we
headed back to the van for lunch, laundry and napping. By the time we awoke, it
was time to have a swim in the heated indoor pool (accompanied by a a few very
excited children!). Soon after that was pre-dinner drinks under our awning as
we are in the middle of Kev and Jo (friends from Melinda Rd, visiting Kev’s
father who lives nearby) and Y&G. We didn't get to preparing dinner until
after 7pm, but were done by 8:30pm.
The wind was pretty strong when we first arrived, but it had died down by the time we were ready for bed, thank goodness. We only hope it stays low tomorrow for our ride out to Queenscliff and surrounds.
